This is the time of year we thank our out-going Board of Directors for their year of service and, in turn, welcome in the new Board for 2016-2017. This year’s installation of officers took place at Jasper’s restaurant in San Francisco. We also gave special recognition to our Chapter Member of the Year, Elena Daciuk, and our Rising Star, incoming-President Carol Parker Walsh. (We’ll tell you more info about these two deserving award recipients in an upcoming post.)
Adena DiTonno has been a Chapter member for five years and has served on the Board for two years as Treasurer, as President in 2012-2013, and is returning for her second year as VP of Marketing/Social Media/Website. Her business is adenaDesigns in Redwood City CA, with a focus on helping women define and integrate their personal style into their wardrobes, so they can feel confident they are making the most of themselves every day. As a former product marketing and advertising executive, she also helps other image consultants with their marketing needs.
What You Might Not Know About Adena:
Adena was born in Roswell, New Mexico and raised on a wheat farm in Kansas. She loves to travel (especially to Italy to visit her husband’s family), golf, read, and play the piano, and absolutely adores her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bucky.
Aren’t we just getting ready for Thanksgiving? Well…yes, but…as we know, in this business we’re always looking ahead to the upcoming season. Our Chapter helped our members stay ahead of the curve and took a look at the upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 Trends as defined by Fashion Group International (FGI) at our November 19 event at Bloomingdale’s. With close to 50 people signing up, including some students and potential new members, it was a full house. We mingled and enjoyed our social time together, and then got down to business watching the video.
Fifty minutes later, with our heads overflowing with the many trends we can expect to see next season, our expert panel took the stage and discussed their take-aways on trends in general, as well as their views on how trends play out in the Bay Area. Now all that’s left is to decipher for ourselves what we think will work best with our clients – which of course, is always individual and personal.
It couldn’t help but be a great combination when you put your fellow image consultants together with a (little) bit of wine and a lot of shopping! Our excursion into St. Helena this past Tuesday was a day filled with the pleasures of strolling beautiful downtown St. Helena, lunching at Cindy’s Backstreet Restaurant, and discovering hidden treasures in the many unique boutiques. We even got little goodie bags (courtesy of Marjory DeRoeck and Carolyn Woodworth- thanks ladies!)
This fun-filled day was one with no agenda, although the talk inevitably turned to our profession and the sharing of tips on how to better serve our clients. This members-only event was definitely a hit – one of our members, Bernie Burson, came in all the way from Oregon to hang out with her fellow Chapter members!
Our first membership social hour was a resounding success! Held at Modern China Cafe in Walnut Creek and led by President Carrie LaShell, the group shared ideas, successes, and support, along with snacks and libations. This informal setting was very conducive for talking about our common concerns (such as package pricing vs. hourly, pushy sales people, etc.), as well as just getting to know one another better.
Of course, whenever image consultants get together, there is bound to be a lovely array of handbags as well. Love the rainbow of colors!
The next event will be held in Marin on October 10, with Bianca Stark-Falcone serving as our discussion leader. Remember, it’s open to any member from any area – you don’t have to live in Marin or the north Bay to participate. Stay tuned for details!
